Location: Tignes Val Claret, French Alps
Tignes sits high in the Tarentaise valley of the French Alps, in Savoie, and Val Claret, at around 2,100 metres, is its highest and most snow-sure village, at the foot of the Grande Motte glacier. The resort stands in the heart of Val Claret, with the pistes just outside, and together with neighbouring Val d'Isère, Tignes forms one of the largest and highest ski areas in the world, with around 300 kilometres of slopes, 154 runs, 79 lifts and skiing from about 1,550 to 3,450 metres.
The nearest airports are Geneva and Chambéry, around three to three and a half hours away by road, and Bourg-Saint-Maurice station, served by the winter Eurostar, is around 45 minutes away. Club Med can arrange transfers as part of a package.

Rooms and suites at Club Med Tignes
The rebuilt resort has around 430 rooms in Superior and Deluxe categories, many with mountain views and some with balconies, designed in a bright, colourful style that gives traditional Alpine references a playful, contemporary twist. Family rooms and connecting rooms make it easy to travel with children.
For more space and service, the Exclusive Collection space has 25 five-star suites with a private lounge and a personalised concierge, a quieter, more luxurious hotel within the resort.
Facilities at Club Med Tignes
As with all Club Med resorts, the price includes almost everything: full board with buffet and table-service dining, an open bar, a ski pass for the Tignes–Val d'Isère area, group ski and snowboard lessons for all levels, and children's clubs for ages 0 to 17, divided into age groups from babies to teenagers. Ski equipment can be rented on site and kept in a ski room by the slopes.
There is an indoor swimming pool with mountain views, a Turkish bath and a Club Med Spa by Sothys for massages and treatments, which are charged extra. The resort is BREEAM- and Green Globe-certified, with solar panels on site, and Club Med is a partner of the neighbouring Vanoise National Park.

The mountain moment
The defining moment is the first lift of a bluebird morning, rising above Val Claret towards the Grande Motte glacier, with the peaks of the Vanoise glittering all around and a whole day of skiing ahead that you have already paid for. Ski over to Val d'Isère for lunch, or follow an instructor down the runs where the 1992 Olympic skiing took place.
Back at the resort, the children are collected from their ski school by the club team, and you head for a hot drink, the pool or the spa as the evening light turns the snow pink.
Why Club Med Tignes is one of the best mountain hotels
Club Med Tignes earns its place because it makes a big-mountain ski holiday simple, especially for families. It is new, well designed and genuinely ski-in, ski-out, in one of the most snow-reliable resorts in Europe, and the all-inclusive price, with lift passes and lessons, removes most of the hidden costs of a week in the Alps. The Exclusive Collection suites add a five-star option for those who want more space and service.
It is a large, sociable resort rather than an intimate hotel, so for something smaller, compare it with Les Barmes de l'Ours in Val d'Isère. For more ideas, see our guides to the best family ski resorts and the best ski-in ski-out hotels in the Alps.
When to go to Club Med Tignes
The winter season usually runs from early December to late April, and Val Claret's altitude makes it one of the most reliable resorts in the Alps early and late in the season. January and March offer the best combination of snow and value, while the February school holidays are the busiest and most expensive. Club Med Tignes also opens in summer, when the lakes, hiking trails and mountain bike routes of the Vanoise come into their own.
