Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs

Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs is a small, friendly lodge in Ouray, the little Victorian mining town in south-west Colorado known as the Switzerland of America. Its great secret lies behind the building: four redwood hot spring tubs, terraced up the mountainside, filled with natural mineral water and reserved for guests alone. Soaking in them under the stars, with the jagged San Juan Mountains rising all around, is one of the great simple pleasures of the Colorado Rockies.

The Broadmoor

The Broadmoor is one of America's great resort hotels, a pink-stuccoed Italianate palace set beside a lake at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, where the Rocky Mountains meet the plains. Opened in 1918 by the adventurer and entrepreneur Spencer Penrose, it has welcomed presidents, film stars and generations of families, and it holds a remarkable distinction: it is the only property in the world to have held a Forbes Five-Star rating every year since the awards began in 1960.

The Little Nell

The Little Nell is Aspen's only five-star, ski-in, ski-out hotel, set at the foot of Aspen Mountain beside the Silver Queen Gondola. It combines the intimacy of a small, personal hotel with world-class food and wine and impeccable service, and it is the hub of Aspen's glamorous après-ski scene. For skiers who want to step out of the door and onto one of America's most famous mountains, there is no better address in town.

The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel is one of the most famous hotels in America, and one of the most talked-about haunted hotels in the world. Built in 1909 by the inventor F.O. Stanley on a hillside above Estes Park, its gleaming white Colonial Revival buildings and red roofs stand against a backdrop of Rocky Mountain peaks. In 1974, a stay in Room 217 inspired Stephen King to write The Shining, and the hotel has embraced its spooky reputation ever since.
