Location: Hochgurgl, Ötztal
The Ötztal is one of the longest and highest valleys in the Austrian Alps, running south from the Inn valley towards the Italian border, with the ski resorts of Sölden and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl at its head. Hochgurgl sits high above the village of Obergurgl, about 5 kilometres away, and the shared ski area offers around 110 kilometres of pistes between 1,930 and 3,080 metres, with a long season and reliable snow.
The hotel stands right on the slopes, about 20 metres from the lift, about an hour and a half by road from Innsbruck Airport. In summer, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road climbs from Hochgurgl over the pass into South Tyrol, and the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum stands at its toll station.

Rooms and suites at TOP Hotel Hochgurgl
There are 71 rooms and suites over seven floors, from standard rooms to deluxe doubles and junior suites with mountain views. Nine new rooms and suites opened after a renovation in 2022, including the Prinzensuite and Herzogsuite, and the Kaisersuite, with two bedrooms and its own private spa with a sauna and pool. The style blends contemporary comfort with traditional Tyrolean details, and the suites have panoramic views of the Ötztal Alps.
Facilities at TOP Hotel Hochgurgl
The TOP Mountain Spa covers around 1,100 square metres, with an indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool with views of the slopes, several saunas, a steam bath, fitness rooms and treatment rooms; the sauna area is for guests aged 16 and over. Stays are usually half board, with a five-course dinner, and the historic Tiroler Stube, with wood panelling and carvings dating from the 12th and 15th centuries, serves a French-inspired brasserie menu with Alpine touches, while the Murmelstube is a cosy spot for Alpine dishes. There are two sun terraces, a panoramic lounge and bar, night skiing on Thursdays and a 3-kilometre toboggan run nearby.

The mountain moment
The defining moment is the first run of the morning, stepping out of the hotel at 2,150 metres onto freshly groomed snow, with the glaciers of the Ötztal Alps shining in the sun.
In the afternoon, swim in the heated outdoor pool as the light fades on the peaks, then dine in a panelled Tyrolean Stube that is centuries older than the hotel itself.
Why TOP Hotel Hochgurgl is one of the best mountain hotels
TOP Hotel Hochgurgl earns its place for its altitude, its ski-in, ski-out convenience and its snow-sure position, which make it one of the most reliable places in the Alps for a ski holiday early or late in the season, along with its spa and its characterful dining rooms.

When to go to TOP Hotel Hochgurgl
The hotel is above all a winter hotel, usually open from mid-November to late April; check summer dates when booking. Thanks to its altitude, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is one of the first Austrian ski areas to open and one of the last to close, and March and April bring long, sunny days with good snow. Christmas, New Year and the February holidays are the busiest weeks. In summer, the Timmelsjoch road and the high trails of the Ötztal open for hiking and driving.
