Location: Seefeld, Tyrol

Seefeld lies on a sunny plateau at around 1,200 metres, between the Wetterstein and Karwendel ranges, above Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol. It hosted the Nordic events of the Innsbruck Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976 and the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019, and its cross-country trails are among the most extensive in the Alps. In winter there is gentle downhill skiing on the Rosshütte and Gschwandtkopf; in summer, the plateau is laced with hiking and cycling routes, and there is golf nearby.

The resort stands on the Geigenbühel, about a kilometre from the village centre. Innsbruck and its airport are about half an hour away by road, and Seefeld is on the scenic Mittenwald railway from Innsbruck.

The mountain moment

The defining moment is a winter afternoon in the outdoor pool, steam rising into the cold air as the sun sets behind the peaks of the Wetterstein, followed by a slice of Sacher-Torte by the fire.

In the morning, the cross-country trails start almost from the door, gliding across the snowy plateau beneath the mountains.
