Location: La Malbaie, Charlevoix
Québec's Charlevoix region, north-east of Québec City, is a landscape of rolling mountains, forests and villages along the St. Lawrence River, formed by an ancient meteorite impact and protected as a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
Le Manoir Richelieu stands on a cliff above the river at La Malbaie, about 150 kilometres, or around two hours by road, from Québec City. The ski slopes of Le Massif de Charlevoix are about an hour away, and whale-watching trips leave from Baie-Sainte-Catherine and Tadoussac in summer.

Rooms at Le Manoir Richelieu
There are 405 rooms and suites in the château, many with views over the St. Lawrence or the gardens and golf course. The style is classic and comfortable, in keeping with a historic resort hotel.
Facilities at Le Manoir Richelieu
The 27-hole golf course, opened in 1925 and designed by Herbert Strong, has some of the finest river views of any course in Canada. The Casino de Charlevoix is next door, linked to the hotel by an underground passage, and the resort has a spa, pools and several restaurants. In winter, there is skiing at Le Massif, snowshoeing and dog sledding nearby.

The mountain moment
The defining moment is a summer evening on the terrace, with the vast St. Lawrence stretching away below the cliff and the hills of Charlevoix glowing in the last light.
In winter, the river fills with ice, and the château looks like a castle in the snow.
Why Le Manoir Richelieu is one of the best mountain hotels
Le Manoir Richelieu earns its place for its history, its setting and its golf. It is one of the great railway-era resort hotels of Canada, in one of Québec's most beautiful regions.
Nearby, Le Germain Charlevoix is a stylish, farm-inspired hotel, and Club Med Québec Charlevoix offers all-inclusive skiing above the river.
When to go to Le Manoir Richelieu
Summer, from June to September, is the season for golf, whale watching and the gardens, and late September to mid-October brings brilliant autumn colour. Winter, from December to March, brings skiing at Le Massif and snowy landscapes, and spring is quiet.
