Location: Torres del Paine, Chile

Torres del Paine National Park, in Chilean Patagonia, is one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes on Earth: granite towers and horns rising above turquoise lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and windswept steppe, home to guanacos, condors and pumas. Awasi stands on a private reserve on the edge of the park, overlooking the peaks, Lake Sarmiento and forests of southern beech.

Puerto Natales is about 90 minutes away by road, and Punta Arenas, with more frequent flights, about four and a half hours; private transfers to and from Puerto Natales are included. From Argentina, guests can fly to El Calafate and transfer by land in about four hours.

Villas at Awasi Patagonia

There are 14 freestanding villas on stilts, 13 with one bedroom and one with two, spread across the hillside for privacy. Each has large windows facing the mountains, a wood-burning stove and its own outdoor hot tub, built for soaking under the Patagonian sky. The style is warm and simple, with natural wood and textiles, so the view is always the focus.

Facilities at Awasi Patagonia

What makes Awasi different is the private guiding: every villa has its own guide and 4x4, and each day is planned around you, whether that is a full-day hike to the base of the towers, a horse ride across the steppe, a search for pumas with expert trackers or a boat trip to a glacier. Excursions can be a full day with lunch in the field, or two half days with lunch back at the lodge.

The Main Lodge has a restaurant just for guests, with seasonal Patagonian cooking, and meals, drinks from the open bar and private excursions are included, with massages and premium wines extra.

The mountain moment

The defining moment is the end of a long day on the trails, sinking into your hot tub as the wind drops and the last light turns the granite towers of Torres del Paine pink and gold.

For something unforgettable, spend a day with Awasi's puma trackers, following the big cats across the steppe with the mountains behind.

Why Awasi Patagonia is one of the best mountain hotels

Awasi earns its place because it offers something no other lodge in Torres del Paine can: total freedom, with your own guide and vehicle, in a private villa facing the mountains. It is the best way to see the park without the crowds.

For other great stays in Patagonia, compare it with Tierra Patagonia on Lake Sarmiento, Hostería Pehoé inside the park and Explora El Chaltén in Argentina.

When to go to Awasi Patagonia

The best time to visit is from around September to April. December to February brings the longest days and warmest weather, but also the strongest winds and the most visitors, with high-season rates and a minimum stay over Christmas and New Year. October, November, March and April are quieter, and in autumn, from March, the beech forests turn red and gold. Book well ahead, as there are only 14 villas.
