Run by the same family for generations, it combines historic charm with an extensive spa, indoor and outdoor pools and generous South Tyrolean hospitality, with the lifts to Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi a short walk away.

Location: Ortisei, Val Gardena

The hotel is in the centre of Ortisei, the main village of Val Gardena, a short walk from the cable cars to Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi. Val Gardena is part of the Dolomiti Superski network and lies on the Sellaronda, the famous ski circuit around the Sella massif. Bolzano is about 40 minutes away, and Innsbruck, Verona and Venice airports are within around two to three hours.

Val Gardena is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites, with three villages, Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva, set beneath the jagged Sassolungo and Odle peaks. Ortisei is known for its centuries-old woodcarving tradition, and its pedestrian centre is full of carving workshops, cafés and shops. The Saslong downhill, near Santa Cristina, hosts a men's World Cup race each December, and the Sellaronda, a circuit of around 40 kilometres of linked pistes and lifts around the Sella massif, passes through four Ladin valleys and four mountain passes. The Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high alpine meadow, is a paradise for gentle skiing, cross-country skiing and winter walking.

Rooms and suites at Adler Dolomiti

Rooms and suites range from classic doubles to family suites sleeping five, in a warm Alpine style with natural wood and stone. Some guests note that rooms have no air conditioning, which can feel warm in midsummer.

The hotel's history is visible throughout, from the old building on the village square to the warm wood and stone of the interiors, and many rooms have balconies with views over Ortisei to the surrounding peaks. Family suites provide space for children, and the hotel's central position means everything in the village is a short walk away.

Facilities at Adler Dolomiti

The spa is the heart of the hotel, with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, treatment rooms and a gym, and there is a kids' club. Stays usually include a generous breakfast buffet, afternoon snacks and a four-course dinner.

The family that runs the Adler hotels is one of the oldest hotelier families in South Tyrol, and that experience shows in the warm, professional service. The hotel offers a programme of guided hikes, ski tours and activities, and its sister property, Adler Mountain Lodge on the Alpe di Siusi, makes a perfect combination for a longer stay.

The mountain moment

The Adler moment is the cable car to Seceda on a clear morning, where the jagged ridge of the Odle peaks drops away beneath you, followed by a day on the Sellaronda and a swim in the outdoor pool in the centre of Ortisei.

In summer, the same cable car to Seceda leads to one of the most photographed hikes in the Dolomites, along the edge of the Odle peaks, with meadows, huts and views across the valley.

Why Adler Dolomiti is one of the best mountain hotels

Adler Dolomiti earns its place for its history, spa and location, giving easy access to some of the most beautiful skiing and hiking in the Dolomites. It is large and can feel busy, and its style is traditional. But for spa lovers and active travellers in Val Gardena, it is a classic.

For the family's more intimate lodge on the Alpe di Siusi, see Adler Mountain Lodge.

Its combination of history, spa, central location and access to some of the most beautiful mountains in the world makes it a natural base for anyone exploring Val Gardena, in winter or summer. For families, the kids' club and family suites are a bonus, while couples can enjoy the spa and long dinners after a day in the mountains.
